Israeli Attacks on Lattakia Port

An Israeli airstrike hit Syria’s Lattakia Port before dawn on Tuesday, December 28, the second such attack on the cargo hub this month, Syrian state media reported.

Since the outbreak of Syria’s civil war in 2011, Israel has routinely carried out airstrikes on its neighbor, mostly targeting Syrian government troops as well as allied Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters.

The Israeli military has in the past supported the strikes as a necessary measure to prevent its enemy, Iran, from gaining a foothold on its territories. This year, Israel has targeted Syria nearly 30 times, killing 130 people including civilians and 125 loyalist fighters, according to SOHR figures.

The Syrian State has always called on the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations to intervene in order to stop repeated Israeli attacks targeting military bases, infrastructure and buildings in Syria, such as those that have targeted the Lattakia Port twice this month.

These repeated attacks demonstrate the aggressive nature of Israel and confirmed once again the continued state terrorism and arrogance of the Israeli occupation authorities, especially after the failure of the terrorist forces of Syria.

These attacks constitute a flagrant violation of Security Council resolution 350/1974 on the Separation of Forces Convention and a clear violation of international laws.

Israeli Repeated aggression in Syria

Over the past years, Israel has conducted dozens of raids on Syria, targeting the Syrian army, as well as Iranian and Hezbollah bases.

However, the Occupation state rarely confirms its strikes in Syria. However, in its annual report, the Israeli army confirmed that it had bombed about 50 targets in Syria in 2020, without providing details.

Moreover, Israel stressed that it will continue to address what it describes as “Iran’s attempts to establish its military presence in Syria”.

According to Reuters, Western intelligence sources have stated that the Israeli strikes on Syria are part of a proxy war approved by Washington in an anti-Iran policy to undermine Tehran’s vast military power in the past two years.

Targeting the port of most imports for Syria, which has been ravaged by a decade-old civil war and western-imposed sanctions is rare.

Israeli warplanes targeted the container terminal, causing fires and explosions, thus this attack has become part of an “economic war,” and a “starvation policy” against the Syrian people.

Israel is “above the law”

Israel usually does not comment, but observers have linked this development to the Vienna talks, as Tel Aviv wants these talks to fail in any way and it doesn’t want the Iranian economy to flourish.

The Israeli aggression primarily targets Syria as a homeland, people, entity, and capabilities, where the aggression itself affects an Arab country in a flagrant violation of international laws, with explicit American permission, that also violates these laws, but rather the generally accepted international relations.

Israel proves to the world that it is a state “above the law” and that it does not care about international laws or care about sanctions as a result of violating the sovereignty of an independent country under the pretext of maintaining its security.

The UN Security Council and the international community must condemn the Israeli attack on Syrian territory, hold Israel accountable and prevent it from repeating its aggression.
