Israeli Occupation Forces Attacks on Palestinian Journalists Escalated
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued the systematic attacks against local and international media personnel working in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) despite the protection that journalists, as civilians, enjoy under international law.
In June 2022, IOF troops carried out a total of 44 violations against media freedoms in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt).
The most serious violation was the deliberate execution of the female journalist, Ghufran Warasna, in Aroub refugee camp in Hebron.
17 Journalists working with local and international media institutions were also injured during the same reported period.
IOF grave violations against journalists include threats to their personal safety and attack on their equipment with live and rubber bullets, physical and emotional assault, and restrictions on the freedom of movement.
During June, two journalists were briefly arrested, while another was denied entry to al-Aqsa Mosque.
The administrative detention of the journalist, Bushra Al-Taweel, was also renewed for the second time in 3 months.
Israeli forces also prevented media coverage in 17 times, mainly in occupied Jerusalem, Hebron and Nablus.
27 violations were also reported against Palestinian social media content during the same reported period.
In this regard, we call on the international community to put an end to the deliberate targeting of journalists and media facilities by Israeli occupation and to provide protection for journalists and media professionals.
It is worth to mention that the bullet that killed the Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was handed over to the Israeli authorities after being examined at the US embassy. This means that Israel will have again impunity.
